Finding the Right Advisor for You

With over 500,000 financial
advisors in the U.S. how can you find one you can trust and that can help you in ways you need most?

There are two main types of financial advisors

Asset Manager

A financial advisor who is an Asset Manager is focused solely on investing in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, alternative assets or other types of securities. Their primary goal is to achieve a rate of return for your assets. They do not create financial plans, offer insurance, or offer other guidance such as retirement planning or college funding.

These advisors can be registered with and regulated by either or both the Securities and Exchange Commission/State or the Financial Industry Regulation Authority (FINRA).

There are also many firms that offer both Asset Management and Financial Planning services, referred to as Wealth Managers.

Financial Planner

A financial advisor who is a Financial Planner is someone who creates a written plan covering dozens of topics including investments, taxes, insurance, retirement, cash flow, savings and so forth.

A financial plan is a complex and lengthy document that is essentially a blueprint for someone’s total financial picture.

Just like Asset Managers, these advisors can also be registered with and regulated by either or both the Securities and Exchange Commission/State or the Financial Industry Regulation Authority (FINRA).

Wealth Managers are financial advisors that offer both Financial Planning and Asset Management services.
